backing local people worldwide to bring damaged land and ecosystems back to life
About Ecosystem Restoration Communities
Ecosystem Restoration Communities is a global network that backs local people to repair damaged land and seas, growing a worldwide movement of grassroots restorers.
Across the world, ecosystems are breaking down through deforestation, soil loss, dwindling water and falling biodiversity. These crises feed into one another and into climate change, food insecurity and the fraying connection between people and nature. Restoration is one of the few responses that addresses all of them at once.
The organisation works on the conviction that lasting recovery is led by the communities who live on the land. It connects local restoration projects into a single network, sharing knowledge between them, channelling funding and support, and offering training so that practical skills spread from place to place. Its own role is to enable and amplify, not to dictate.
Restorers on the ground draw on a common toolkit: holding water in the landscape, replanting and rewilding, rebuilding healthy soil, restoring marine habitats such as mangroves and reefs, and farming in step with nature. Member projects span continents, from reforested hillsides in Guatemala to restored mangroves on the Kenyan coast and regenerated farmland across Europe, with millions of trees planted and thousands of people trained.
The message is hopeful and practical: degraded land can come back, and communities can lead the way. Support helps new restoration communities get started and gives existing ones the resources and knowledge to heal more ground.
