Standing with the park rangers on conservation's frontline, and with the families they leave behind.
About The Thin Green Line
The Thin Green Line Foundation is a global conservation organisation that supports the park rangers who protect wildlife and wild places, and stands beside the families of those who die in service.
Rangers are the frontline of conservation, the first responders who guard wildlife and wild areas, yet they are too often undertrained, under-equipped and exposed to serious danger. Around 150 rangers are estimated to lose their lives in the line of duty each year, through violence, accidents, illness and encounters with wildlife, leaving grieving families behind. The Foundation exists because protecting nature means protecting the people who protect it.
Based on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula in Australia, it works globally, channelling practical, direct support to rangers and their communities. Its premise is that the day-to-day work of rangers is among the most effective responses there is to the environmental challenges of our time.
A central part of its work is supporting the families of fallen rangers. Through its Fallen Ranger Fund, the Foundation helps bereaved families rebuild by supporting education, secure housing and sustainable livelihoods, addressing the long aftermath of a loss that rarely makes the headlines. It also helps equip and stand behind serving rangers.
The work has earned the backing of figures such as Dr Jane Goodall, who has described rangers as the missing link in conservation. Support helps keep rangers safer in their vital role and ensures their families are not left to cope alone.
