Rescuing, rehabilitating and returning Indonesia's exploited wildlife to the wild since 2008.
About Jakarta Animal Aid Network
Jakarta Animal Aid Network (JAAN) is an Indonesian NGO that rescues exploited and endangered animals and works to end cruelty across the country.
Across Indonesia, thousands of animals are chained, caged, smuggled, beaten or abandoned. Wild animals end up trapped in captivity rather than living free in their natural habitat, and many endangered species face relentless pressure from the illegal wildlife trade. JAAN exists to confront that suffering head on.
Established in 2008 and now a team of more than eighty people, JAAN is a legally registered nonprofit that combines hands-on rescue with rehabilitation, protection and education. Its work ranges from dismantling the cruel training centres behind dancing monkeys to deploying detection and anti-poaching dog units that intercept smugglers and help safeguard the critically endangered Javan rhino.
Rescued animals are cared for at dedicated facilities, including a wildlife centre in Sumatra, the Umah Lumba dolphin and turtle centre in Bali, and Ellis Park, a sanctuary for animals needing lifelong special care. JAAN works closely with government partners across forestry, marine affairs and the police, and its results include returning rescued macaques to protected forests and intercepting smuggled wildlife.
JAAN stands on a simple principle: no animal deserves cruelty. Support helps fund rescues, rehabilitation and the long road back to freedom for animals who would otherwise have none.
