Indigenous Forest Guardians Celebrated for Protecting the Amazon
A tribute honours the courage of Indigenous Earth defenders standing watch over their ancestral territory in the Brazilian Amazon.
The Indigenous Earth defenders who protect the Brazilian Amazon are being honoured for their steadfast commitment to safeguarding the forest and their people's land.
Among those remembered is Paulo Paulino Guajajara, a member of the Forest Guardians who dedicated himself to defending his community's territory.
His story stands as a powerful reminder of the role Indigenous peoples play on the front lines of forest protection.
The tribute is part of ongoing efforts to recognise and support these communities, led by Amazon Watch, an Ecoflix partner.
The Forest Guardians patrol and watch over their territory, confronting the threats that reach deep into the Amazon and working to keep their lands intact for future generations.
Their vigilance protects not only their own communities but also one of the world's most vital ecosystems, home to extraordinary biodiversity and a cornerstone of a stable climate.
By honouring these defenders, the aim is to ensure their courage is remembered and their work continues to receive the attention and backing it deserves.
The recognition shines a light on the determination of Indigenous peoples to defend their forests, and on the solidarity needed to stand alongside them.
