Bear Family Freed From Water Tank and Returned to the Wild

A mother black bear and her three cubs are once again roaming the wild after being freed from a water storage tank in La Verne, California.

The family was discovered on 29 August near the 5-Mile Loop Trail at Claremont Wilderness Park, after runners heard howling coming from the tank.

What could have ended in tragedy instead became a story of rescue, thanks to the swift response that followed the alarm.

Dubbed “Operation Care Bear,” the effort saw the trapped bears safely lifted from the tank and reunited before returning to their natural habitat.

For the cubs, still learning the ways of the wilderness alongside their mother, the outcome means a chance to grow up wild and free.

The rescue was highlighted by Lady Freethinker, an Ecoflix partner, which shares stories of animals given a second chance.

Moments like these are a reminder of how quickly a community can rally when animals are in danger. A group of runners simply listening, and choosing to act, set the whole rescue in motion.

The bear family is now back where they belong, roaming the hills near the park where they were found.
