After Decades of Hard Labour, Elephant Kham Suk Finds Freedom and Family
A 37-year-old elephant rescued from a lifetime of work in Laos has been reunited with her sister.
On 3 July 2026, a 37-year-old elephant named Kham Suk left behind a lifetime of hardship.
Her rescuers first met her at an elephant show in Laos, where performing turned out to be only a small part of a much harder story.
Looking deeper into her background, the team learned that Kham Suk had spent decades working, with the show marking just the latest chapter in a long and difficult life.
That chapter has now closed. Kham Suk has been freed from her former circumstances and given the chance to live differently.
Most movingly, her rescue brought an unexpected gift: a reunion with her sister. After years apart, the two elephants are together once more.
The rescue was carried out by Save Elephant Foundation, an Ecoflix partner known for giving working and performing elephants a path to freedom.
